Nearly 50 BIC employee volunteers, their family, and friends brought their energetic and caring spirit to the Special Olympics Connecticut Bocce Skills event on 10-SEP-2016 at Scalzi Park in Stamford, Conn. For the 21st year, BIC supported Special Olympics CT as Bronze Sponsor of the 2016 Unified Sports® Fall Festival where people with and without intellectual disabilities compete on the same sports teams to promote social inclusion.

After an Opening Ceremony with remarks from Beau Doherty, President, Special Olympics CT, and Chris Mills, President, BIC North America Consumer Products, the athletes and volunteers eagerly took to the bocce courts. The 129 athletes who competed were encouraged and celebrated for their abilities and achievements.

Adding to the day’s excitement was participation from John Starks, retired National Basketball Association player who spent eight years of his career with the New York Knicks, and actor Tony Darrow from The Sopranos and GoodFellas, who presented ribbons and medals to the Athletes during the Awards Ceremony.

“This was an extremely proud day for BIC. The spirit and high energy demonstrated by our BIC Team, our families, and our friends in support of these athletes was both touching and impressive,” said Chris Mills. “To see the positive impact that our BIC family has made on the lives of the athletes and their families is most rewarding…the smiles on the athletes’ faces are priceless!”
